MARIE CLAIRE USA DEBUTED THEIR FIRST-EVER ‘POWER ON’ VIRTUAL SUMMIT

October 15, 2020

Marie Claire USA’s annual Power Trip franchise was expanded with the first-ever Power On event series, which took place virtually, last Thursday, October 8. The Power On event series was crafted to capture the spirit of the Power Trip in an evening-long event to inspire connection, discovery, and collaboration among female leaders who are powering the future of our world. Since 2016, Marie Claire has hosted its annual Power Trip, a 36-hour summit that begins in the sky with east coast power women boarding a chartered aircraft to meet power women in San Francisco for a non-stop uniquely crafted networking extravaganza.

“There is nothing quite like the Power Trip —a truly unique, and fun, opportunity to meet, connect with, and learn from an amazing group of women—which I look forward to every year. In a moment when it feels like we need to come together more than ever, we weren’t going to let anything stop us from making this event happen in some form,” said Sally Holmes, editor in chief of Marie Claire US. “Our team has been working tirelessly to bring our Power Trippers surprising content, rousing conversation, and exclusive access to today’s innovative and inspiring women. I can’t wait.”

Stand-up comedian and NYT best-selling author Phoebe Robinson, best known as creator and co-host of 2 Dope Queens, will kick off the afternoon event. Taraji P. Henson will be interviewed on the importance of mental health. Activist Alicia Garza will deliver a keynote address on owning your power to create change. Actress and activist Gabrielle Union will share her insights on the power of principles as she is interviewed by Lola Ogunnaike. MSNBC “The ReidOut” host Joy Reid, who this year joined only a handful of Black women to anchor an American evening news program, will be in conversation with Dee Poku. Vanessa Pappas, interim Head of TikTok, will engage in a discussion with Sally

Holmes, on the power of leadership and heading a company through turbulent times. In addition, Stephanie Ruhle will moderate a panel on the state of business through the pandemic with Cathy Engelberg, WNBA Commissioner, Shan-Lyn Ma, Founder and CEO of Zola, Sarah Paiji Yoo, Co-Founder and CEO of Blueland, Sima Sistani, Co-Founder and CEO of Houseparty and Jenn Hyman, Co-Founder and CEO of Rent the Runway.

In a time when travel has been put on pause, the UnitedSM Explorer Card has partnered with Marie Claire on their Power On digital event, to bring influential women from across the country together to connect virtually. Additional partners for Power On include Dermstore, Sarah Flint, Simon G. Jewelry, Soma and White House Black Market.

“The United Explorer Card is all about helping cardmembers earn travel rewards that empower more opportunities for connection with people and places,” said Kristen Bowdoin, Managing Director and General Manager of the United Airlines Co-Brand at JPMorgan Chase & Co. “By partnering with Marie Claire on this inspirational digital event, we hope to harness that same spirit of the card by uniting these powerful women, sparking meaningful conversations and exploring new outlooks on the world.” “Traveling the globe, engaging with people anywhere and everywhere drives my passion and success,” said Kelli Hodges, Director of Product Marketing for Dell Technologies. “This year has turned our world upside down, but brought us the importance of being empathetic and learning how to deal with change. As a Director at Dell Technologies, I lead with my heart and have learned to create connection and

collaboration in new ways through technology in this unprecedented environment. During Power On, we will network, learn and walk away with new friendships fully powered through technology.”

The Power Trip pop-up summit will be returning in 2021.To learn more about the Power Trip and join the conversation, follow the hashtag #MarieClairePowerOn and Marie Claire on social media.
