In the September issue, Marie Claire South Africa launches its 2018 #DearBody New Naked campaign. The Naked issue is synonymous with Marie Claire South Africa and has for years been a strong brand property. This year, the team is proud to present the New Naked. Nakedness is about finding power in vulnerability, transparency, and truth. This year Marie Claire South Africa has collaborated with celebrities, industry creatives and influencers who, through beautiful images shot by photographer Niquita Bento, advocate for body positivity and self-worth – both as individuals and within their chosen fields.
Marie Claire’s South Africa 2018 #DearBody New Naked special issue, in partnership with American Swiss, celebrates the female form in all its glory and, for the first time since the launch of the Naked issue, is entirely curated for women. Marie Claire South Africa also asked each of the 15 women featured in the issue to write a letter to their body; the powerful words extracted from these letters – determined, full of life, joyful, iconic, strong, perfect, confident, beautiful – highlight their journey to self-love and embracing who they are.
Celebrities who bare all include radio personalities Sibongile Mafu and Sherlin Barends, actress and presenter Khanyi Mbau, radio personality Ayanda MVP, actress Nomalanga Shozi, fashion influencers Shelley Mokoena and Keneilwe Mothoa from Prime Obsession, comedian Tumi Morake, entertainer Zodwa Wabantu, TV presenter Lalla Hirayama, comedian and TV presenter Nina Hastie, model and actress Michelle Mosalakae, singer and actress Bianca Le Grange, influencer Lesego ‘Thickleeyoncé’ Legobane, and author and actress Buhle Ngaba.
An exclusive exhibition will be held at the Berman Contemporary gallery in Sandton, Johannesburg, in September to celebrate the stars of the 2018 #DearBody New Naked issue. Guests will be treated to empowering talks celebrating the strength and power of women. Selected images from the shoot will be exhibited and sold on the night, with all proceeds from the sales going to Women & Men Against Child Abuse – a non-profit child protection organization committed to fighting for the rights of the child. The charity’s mission is to end the abuse of children in South Africa through a multifaceted, dynamic and aggressive offensive against any form of abuse and gender violence.
Through their 2018 #DearBody New Naked campaign, Marie Claire South Africa also wants to hear from women, and slowly build a movement where letters to our bodies join into one powerful statement “which, one day, may change perceptions,’ says Associated Media Publishing Group Brand Director Emilie Gambade.
